Los Angeles-based electro pop/rock band Capital Cities have released the video for "Kangaroo Court", taken from their debut album 'In A Tidal Wave of Mystery', released in June via Capitol Records.
Capital Cities broke big with “Safe And Sound” and recently won the Best Visual Effects at the MTV VMA's with the video. The song shares the same subtly infectious dream-pop sensibility as its predecessor but the mood is considerably darker this time around — a change that’s reflected in the thought-provoking video.
The very ‘80s-styled video heavy with allusions to George Orwell’s book Animal Farm follows the sad tale of a zebra looking for love at the local animal nightclub, where zebras are effectively banned. When the zebra takes some rather drastic measures to make his way inside, he finds his efforts to court a cute poodle (played by Raising Hope actress Shannon Woodward) thwarted by her poker-playing dog boyfriend, portrayed by Glee star, Darren Criss.
